Idle controls can allow you to get the most amperage from your alternator at the toughest time, at idle. Your vehicle and accessories can demand more than the alternator is capable of producing at a low RPM. By increasing the engine RPM when the vehicle is in park, the alternator will spin faster and increase its output.

These high idle kits will sense the voltage in the system and if it is low will increase the engine RPM to a user selected level. They have built in safety interlocks to prevent the vehicle from being put into gear while the RPM level is raised.
